Regarding the Pledge:
For some years now in the West, there has arisen a shared conviction among some individuals and institutes about the need to foster mutual tolerance and a spirit of cooperation between the somewhat disparate theological strands that claim allegience to Sunni Islam. These past few years have seen a number of significant steps towards realizing this goal: meetings, respectful exchanges, and even the occasional shared platform in da’wah. Recently, these concerted efforts have, by Allah’s enabling grace, culminated in the following Pledge of Mutual Respect and Cooperation; designed - not as an end word on the matter, but as a realistic model for unifying ranks, reducing schisms and reconciling hearts. Some, no doubt, may not see eye to eye with the pledge’s contents: and they will have their reasons and their right to do so. Though a great many, we hope, will welcome it; share in the convictions of its signatories; and be filled with renewed optimism because of it.
We beseach Allah that He look favourably upon this endevour of unity, and that He guide us all to His forgiveness and good pleasure.
